This beautiful shrub is adorned with bright pink flowers.
It is a show stopper! This plant is also known as Caesalpinia mexicana.
Common names for this plant include Pride of Barbados, Mexican Bird of Paradise, & Dwarf Poinciana.
Its bright pink flowers, mimosa-like feathery foliage, drought tolerance, and quick
growth make this a popular specimen shrub. It's hard to find a more beautiful flower! It flowers almost
year-round in tropical climates, but will flower late spring until fall in other zones.
These plants will grow to a height of 7-9 feet. They should begin to flower when about 3-4 feet tall.
This plant should be planted in full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil.
They are hardy in USDA Zones 9-11.
The plant can be treated like a perennial in zone 8B (it dies back but will return in the spring).
In other zones, just collect the seeds after it blooms and replant early the next spring.
If you start the seeds early in the spring, you can have blooms that summer.
This shrub can be grown and flowered in a container. Just be sure to give the roots plenty of room.
