This is lovely Heliconia psittacorum variety.
It makes medium-sized 8" flowers -- beautiful deep orangy red bracts with golden sepals.
It blooms all year long and it can grow to about 5 feet tall, with beautiful green foliage.
The flowers look great in arrangements.
They are hardy in USDA zone 10-11. For best results in cooler areas, plant in a warm greenhouse. Grow in full sun to light shade. They need well-drained, rich, moist soil and they like humidity. They spread rapidly, so in less than a year you will have a large stand of these plants. |
