This is a truly beautiful tropical specimen plant. The bright rose-colored flower spike is an unforgettable color. In ideal conditions, Alpinian purpuratas can reach a height of 10 feet. These gingers make compact flowers against beautiful dark green foliage. Both the leaves and the flowers are excellent for cut flower arrangements.

This variety produces abundant seeds, and the occasional plantlet.

They should be planted in full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil. They are hardy in USDA Zones 10-11. They need to be moved inside or into a greenhouse if outside temperatures go below 50°F. They like humidity and abundant water.
