Calathea zebrina, also know as the Zebra Plant, is a beautiful plant for the home, greenhouse, or shady part
of your yard. The striking foliage has contrasting "zebra" stripes which appears velvety.
Calathea zebrina can reach a height of 2-3 feet when grown in a container.
Though it flowers in the springtime, the flowers are inconspicuous.
It is grown primarily as a foliage plant.
Leaves emerge from basal rosettes and may reach 2 feet long by 1 foot wide.
It will not tolerate direct sun, but it requires bright shade in order to achieve the rich coloration of the leaves.
Direct sun will cause leaf burn.
It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11 and will not tolerate temperatures below about 55°F.
It requires high humidity and rich, moist, well-drained soil.
