Calathea rufibarba is a beatiful plant with olive-to-dark green arching leaves that have maroon-to-purplish undersides. The wavy/crinkled leaves and the purplish stems are covered with tiny hairs, giving this plant a fuzzy velvet feel. Because of this, this Calathea is sometimes called the Furry Feather Calathea. Truely a unique find! Growing to a maximum height of 16-18", this Calathea makes a wonderful addition to that shady spot on your deck or to your houseplant collection. It thrives in the shade in moist, rich, well-drained soil. It can tolerate some direct sun, but it copes with this by folding its leaves in half. It is hardy to Zone 10.
